If you are looking for details on the latest Quantel plug-ins, here is some great information and tips from Gary Oberbrunner, Chief Scientist and one of the founders of GenArts.

    Presets On Demand

GenArts recently released Sapphire version 6.10, which includes a really cool new "under the hood" feature you may not have seen. You've probably tried the Preset Browser in v6; most effects in v6 come with a nice collection of presets to save you time and help you find new uses for Sapphire. You may know that as part of your v6 purchase, you get a year's worth of artist-designed presets in monthly collections from our FX Central website. BUT, you probably don't know that in v6.10, we introduced a new feature which automatically downloads all the new presets from FX Central without you having to do anything at all!

To set it up, just apply any effect (such as S_LensFlare), click Load Preset, and make sure you are logged into FX Central in the preset browser. From then on, it'll automatically get all the latest presets, whenever they come out. They'll just appear in the preset browser. Since v6 was released last September, we've already released over 250 new presets, with more coming each month. Please check them out -- we made them for you! V6.10 is (as always) free to all current v6 customers. Just go to Genarts to download your update -- it installs right over your existing version, and you shouldn't have to re-enter your serial number. By the way, if you've forgotten your FX Central login info, just go here to reset it.

Here's all the presets we've made available for Sapphire since V6:

Lens Flare Designer There are of course dozens of other new features and effects in v6, but I'll just mention one more: the Flare Designer. The Flare Designer lets you design your own lens flares from scratch, or customize existing ones. The possibilities are endless; you can go wild or stay incredibly subtle -- it's up to you. To try it out, just apply S_LensFlare to a clip, then click on Edit Lens. To see more, check out our video

You'll find lens flares can be used for all kinds of things, not just traditional flares; transitions, film fogging, color washes, you name it.
